Preamble: Volunteer Alberta is committed to maintaining our core values and working in a respectful, ethical, and fair manner that honours the relationships we establish. Volunteer Alberta’s intent is to adhere to all laws and regulations that apply to the organization. This policy aims to provide guidelines and create accountability regarding the collection, use, and disclosing of personal data.

The Policy

    1.0 Collection and Accuracy of Personal Information

    Volunteer Alberta may gather and use personal information from its members, volunteers, and other stakeholders in order to meet our strategic mission and improve services. Volunteer Alberta is responsible for and endeavors to carefully protect this information and that any use of, or other dealing with, this information is subject to consent.

      2.0 Security

      Volunteer Alberta makes reasonable security arrangements against risks such as unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, or disposal. All Volunteer Alberta Team Members (including paid employees, Board member, interns/practicum students, contractors, and volunteers, and other individuals engaged by Volunteer Alberta with potential access to confidential information) having access to personal information are required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement.       Please be aware that no data storage system or transmission of data over the Internet or any other public network can be guaranteed to be 100 percent secure.  Please note that information collected by third parties may not have the same security protections as information you submit to us, and we are not responsible for protecting the security of such information.

        3.0 Purpose and Use of Collection

        The purpose for which Volunteer Alberta collects personal information will be identified at or before the time the information is collected. Personal information may be collected for such purposes as:

        • 3.1 Administering Volunteer Alberta membership and providing member services.
        • 3.2 Fulfill requests for products, services, and information
        • 3.3 Purchasing various products or services including, but not limited to workbooks, workshops, or consulting services.
        • 3.4 Registering for Volunteer Alberta events, for example the Annual General Meeting.
        • 3.5 Conducting sector research through surveys, interviews, or focus groups.
        • 3.6 Processing and administering the above or other purposes as necessary.

            4.0 Consent

            An individual’s consent is required regarding the collection and proposed use of personal information when information is collected.  Consent can be either express or implied and can be provided directly by the individual or by an authorized representative. Express consent can be given orally, electronically or in writing. Implied consent is consent that can reasonably be inferred from an individual’s action (e.g., registering for Volunteer Alberta membership) or inaction (e.g., not cancelling Volunteer Alberta membership). An individual or organization’s consent is required before confidential information is released to outside parties.

              5.0 Disclosure of Data

              Personal information shall not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law. Personal information shall be retained only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes.

                6.0 Use of the Volunteer Alberta Website

                https://volunteeralberta.ab.ca/ is created and managed by the Association of Volunteer Centers and Volunteer Engaging Organizations of Alberta (“Volunteer Alberta”). By using this website, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of information by Volunteer Alberta as specified below. If you do not wish to be bound by these terms and conditions, you may not access or use this website.

                Volunteer Alberta (“us,” “we,” or “our”) operates the https://volunteeralberta.ab.ca/  website (hereinafter referred to as the “Service”).

                We use your data to provide and improve the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information per this policy. Unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy, the terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as our Terms of Service, accessible from https://volunteeralberta.ab.ca/terms-of-service/.

                6.1 Personal data

                While using our Service, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally-identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you (“Personal Data”). Information may include, but is not limited to:

                We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track the activity on our Service and hold certain information. Cookies are files with a small amount of data that may include a unique anonymous identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a website and stored on your device. Tracking technologies also used are beacons, tags, and scripts to collect and track information and improve and analyze our Service.

                Volunteer Alberta will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure your data is secured and treated in accordance with this Privacy Policy. No transfer of personal data will take place unless there are adequate controls in place, including the security of your data and other personal information.

                6.5 Service providers

                We may employ third-party Service Providers to facilitate our Service, provide the Service on our behalf, perform Service-related services, or assist us in analyzing how our Service is used.

                These parties have access to your Personal Data to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

                6.6 Analytics

                We may use third-party Service Providers to monitor and analyze the use of our Service.

                Google Analytics

                Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google uses the data collected to track and monitor the use of our Service and shares data with other Google services. Google may use the collected data to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network.

                You can opt-out of having made your activity on the Service available to Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The add-on prevents Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js, analytics.js, and dc.js) from sharing information with Google Analytics about visits activity.

                6.7 Links to other sites

                Our Service may contain links to other sites that we do not operate. If you click on a third-party link, it will direct you to a third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit.

                We have no control over and assume no responsibility for any third-party sites or services’ content, privacy policies, or practices.

                7.0 Changes to this privacy policy

                We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. We advise you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective at the date of posting.
