ABNN

Alberta Nonprofit Network

The Alberta Nonprofit Network (ABNN) is a collaborative network designed to build a connected ecosystem where nonprofits across Alberta can collaborate, share knowledge, and strengthen their collective impact.  Guided by Network Stewards, including Volunteer Alberta, ABNN’s work is driven by the priorities and perspectives of those within the sector and creating opportunities for learning and collaboration. ABNN is co-leading the Dignified Retirement Research Project with Volunteer Alberta, and we provide admin and fiscal supports for ABNN.

Beneva

Beneva

Through the support of Beneva, we are moving into our prototyping phase of (Re)Engaged: Volunteerism from the Ground Up. Building on insights from an ethnographic study of volunteerism in Alberta, this phase will test small‑scale, practical experiments that strengthen civic engagement. Funding will specifically support the Community Scouts prototype which provides training to trusted community members to identify social isolation and connect people to inclusive, low‑barrier volunteer opportunities. This will help validate the research and explore a scalable, province‑wide model for re‑engaging volunteers.

Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area (BGCBigs Edmonton) works with us to support the (Re)Engaged: Volunteerism from the Ground Up social research initiative, as well as helped to extend the prototype phase of our Community Nonprofit Internship Program (CNiP) as a way to connect students to nonprofit opportunities.

Edmonton Community Foundation logo

Edmonton Community Foundation

The Edmonton Community Foundation enriches communities now and for generations by supporting initiatives that strengthen organizations and foster long‑term community wellbeing. In 2025/2026, their support enabled us to transition our website and CRM to a Canadian software solution, Members Village, enhancing accessibility, security, and responsiveness to the needs of our network. This investment reflects the Foundation’s commitment to strong community infrastructure, collaboration, and a more vibrant community.

GOvernment of ALberta

The Government of Alberta operates public agencies and services, and invests in and supports Albertans and Alberta’s communities. Thanks to the ongoing partnership and generous support, we deliver on several grants and contracts:

  • The Enhanced Capacity Advancement Program (ECAP) which strengthens Alberta’s nonprofit sector by recognizing and sustaining capacity-nourishing organizations like ours.
  • The Volunteer Screening Program to support Alberta’s nonprofit organizations in developing deeper understanding of volunteer screening and engagement practices toward the broader goal of community safety.
  • Supporting National Volunteer Week celebrations across the province to highlight the value of volunteers and their positive impact on society
  • The (Re)Engaged: Volunteerism from the Ground Up social research initiative to learn how Albertans engage with their communities, what motivates them to do so, and how volunteerism might be changing.
  • Supporting the next phase of our Dignified Retirement Research Project through the Community Initiatives Program
Lawson Foundation logo

Lawson Foundation

The Lawson Foundation recognizes that a strong charitable and nonprofit sector is essential to Canada’s ability to meet complex social and environmental challenges. Through their generous support of the Alberta Nonprofit Network (ABNN), for which Volunteer Alberta is a fiscal agent, the Foundation invests in strengthening the sector as a whole and in building the infrastructure and leadership needed for a resilient,  resilient, well-resourced sector capable of effectively serving the communities of Alberta.  Thanks to this partnership, ABNN is better positioned to advance sector capacity, collaboration, and long‑term sustainability.

Volunteer Alberta is grateful to collaborate with organizations whose support strengthens our shared commitment to the nonprofit/voluntary sector. These collaborators contribute far more than resources as they demonstrate values‑based partnership grounded in care, trust, and mutual learning. Together, we advance a stronger, more connected sector that recognizes the essential role of volunteers and community leadership across Alberta.

Training, workshops, and webinars offered by Volunteer Alberta can be applied toward the professional development hours required for CVA certification and renewal. This partnership helps strengthen sector-wide professionalism and leadership in volunteer administration.
