Alberta Fire Chiefs Association (AFCA)

The Alberta Fire Chiefs Association’s (AFCA) faced challenges with recruiting and retaining volunteer firefighters. Volunteer Alberta worked with the Recruitment and Retention Committee to build a recruitment and retention strategy for the AFCA. From environmental scans and examination of recruitment and retention barriers, Volunteer Alberta created a working strategy for all Alberta fire departments.

 

Alberta Mentoring Partnership (AMP)

Alberta Mentoring Partnership (AMP) promotes mentoring within Alberta. With the strategy implementation working group, Volunteer Alberta provided expertise and resources to gather information around Alberta employee volunteerism. Together, we promoted the youth mentoring project, created and implemented a communication strategy and supporting materials, and evaluated the effectiveness of the strategy.

 

Volunteer Program Audit/ Alberta Special Olympics 

The Volunteer Program Audit for Special Olympics Edmonton provided an external, objective analysis of the current volunteer program and practices. Volunteer Alberta developed recommendations, tools and resources for priority areas needing development and/or improvement.

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton and Northern Alberta

Drawing from the expertise of both organizations, BBBS of Edmonton and Volunteer Alberta worked to develop culturally sensitive screening practices. We met the needs of the organization, its clients, and volunteers while mitigating the potential of risk to all involved. As a result, BBBS of Edmonton successfully engaged their volunteers through culturally sensitive screening practices.. Volunteer Alberta conducted a review of documents relevant to the screening process, and BBBS implemented the culturally sensitive screening practices immediately.
