iCCAN (Innovative Communities Connecting & Networking) is a ground breaking project that creates access to learning through networked videoconference sites across Alberta. Educational programming, training, and networking opportunities through iCCAN help more Albertans acquire knowledge and skills without having to travel long distances or live away from their families.

iCCAN’s objective is to work with Community Adult Learning Councils (CALCs), Volunteer Tutor Adult Literacy programs (VTALs), and Volunteer Centres across the province to

  • Improve the participation of under-represented groups in literacy and learning by increasing access to new approaches
  • Provide access to professional development and other post-secondary training programs in more Alberta communities
  • Continue to foster a culture of learning in Alberta

Creating efficiencies & innovation

Great progress continues with Innovative Communities Connecting and Networking (iCCAN). By the end of February 2010, a total of 68 communities were part of the iCCAN network with a total of 114 units in place.

In the months ahead, iCCAN will continue to collaborate with businesses, educators, learners and communities to leverage the power of videoconferencing for professional development, training, academic upgrading and other programming.

Volunteer Alberta members have access to the Volunteer Alberta’s iCCAN site and can connect to the 68 communities on the iCCAN network.

iCCAN’s growing network of videoconference sites is a valuable community resource for an increasing number of Albertans. Visit www.iccan.ca for a list of videoconferencing sites in Alberta.
