AGM's are necessary but they don't necessarily need to be boring or tedious! We race through the business items so members can listen to Volunteer Alberta's special guest speaker Ilona Dougherty, Executive Director of Apathy is Boring.

Volunteer Alberta strategically connects leaders, members, organizations and networks. We encourage network building by both facilitating new networks across all sub-sectors, and encouraging existing nonprofit network growth.

Connecting to Rural Alberta

Through iCCAN videoconferencing technology, Volunteer Alberta connects with 68 communities province-wide and helps educational programming, training, and networking opportunities. In addition to our variety of service delivery locations, Volunteer Alberta also employs five Regional Capacity Coordinators who live and work in the four corners of the province. Their jobs are to connect with rural nonprofits and bring news of the sector back to Volunteer Alberta.

Connecting those who connect volunteers

Great volunteer programs don’t just fall from the sky. Managers of volunteers are critical for mantaining volunteer programs, recognizing the work volunteers do in their communities, and retaining volunteers by providing personal value in each volunteer position. Managers of Volunteers are leaders, advocates, organizers, communicators, networkers, community development workers, entrepreneurs, and facilitators. Most of all, they help the nonprofit organizations they serve meet their missions. Volunteer Alberta supports managers of volunteers through the VAULT initiative and provides resources, a place to share the best practices, and potential professional development opportunities specifically for their roles.

Volunteer Centres

Volunteer Centres play a strategic and vital role in local communities. They are a source of leadership on local trends and issues affecting volunteerism and offer access to local training opportunities.

The support provided by Volunteer Centres enhances the capacity in nonprofit/voluntary sector organizations, helps them achieve their missions, and allows them to better serve the needs of Albertans. There are currently 28 Volunteer Centres in Alberta, each providing a unique mix of programs and services to support local nonprofit/voluntary organizations.
