After an extensive search, Volunteer Alberta (VA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Link as Executive Director, commencing April 17, 2018.

Karen Link is a respected leader who shares our passion for volunteerism and continuing our organization’s work to strengthen and connect Alberta’s nonprofit/voluntary sector.”
Volunteer Alberta’s vision for a strong, engaged, and connected society serving common good across Alberta resonates with Karen. She thrives in vibrant environments in which she is an inspirational leader, a collaborator, and a facilitator of strategic growth. The role of Executive Director will allow her to leverage over 20 years of relevant senior leadership experience and expertise in the public and nonprofit sectors, and apply it in this exciting, collaborative environment. Karen’s commitment to the sector is exemplified by the wide range of local, provincial, and national nonprofit organizations she has worked with.
Karen’s connection with Volunteer Alberta is not new—she has supported the organization over the last few years through contracts around youth leadership; education, social innovation, and communications strategies; and program redesign. A charismatic and courageous leader with a long history of supporting the nonprofit/voluntary sector, she also has a well-established network across multiple industries including economic and community development, education, advanced education, culture and tourism, human services, energy, and manufacturing. Karen, a community builder and network weaver, specializes in managing collaborative models involving a cross section of sector partners working together for common good. Recently she worked with Alberta Education, NorQuest College, and Edmonton Economic Development Corporation.
With this appointment, the Board is confident Volunteer Alberta has the leadership and expertise to build on existing strengths and develop in new directions, which will ensure future sustainability and growth.
