Skilled Volunteers:
Volunteer Alberta recognizes that engaging highly skilled volunteers in strategic roles will benefit the nonprofit/voluntary sector as a whole and help organizations advance their mandates. Traditionally, volunteers have focused on the top and bottom of the organizational chart (in governance – board directors and operation – the stuffing envelope kind of roles). We do things differently here.
Alberta’s nonprofit organizations identify the following challenges:
- no time for planning; few new board members
- finding innovative ways to engage volunteers
- lack of financial sustainability
- recruiting and maintaining staff
Alberta’s volunteers are looking for a meaningful and engaging opportuites. They are no longer content to work at the operational levels of an organization. Volunteers seek roles in organizations where they can make a difference in the community, use their skills, and build experience in time-specific project roles. In today’s economic climate, the nonprofit sector has a tremendous opportunity to use the skills of volunteers strategically for the betterment of Alberta’s communities.
Volunteer Alberta’s primary goal is to ensure that Alberta’s communities have the capacity to support volunteerism in their communities. Your contribution of time and talent assists in reaching this goal!
Our office is conveniently located in downtown Edmonton, close to the LRT and public transportation, with an advanced technology environment including videoconferencing capacity connected to iCCAN (Innovative Communities Connecting and Networking).
